Window Mindfulness

  1. Look around you. Let’s start by noticing things that are closest to you--maybe a tree or a patch of sidewalk. (Pause for a few seconds.) Now, notice things that are farther away--maybe other homes, a mailbox, or stormy clouds rolling in. (Pause for a few seconds.) 

  2. Now, focus on colors. Which colors do you see around you? Greens? Blues? Reds? (Pause for a few seconds.) 

  3. Let’s focus on movements. Is there anything moving around you? Leaves moving in the wind, or maybe a jogger running by? (Pause for a few seconds.) 

  4. Now, shift your attention to the textures around you. If you can, feel some different textures near you--maybe grass, the bark of a tree, or concrete. If you can’t, try to imagine what different outdoor elements might feel like. (Pause for a few seconds.) 

  5. Lastly, what sounds do you hear? Cars driving by, footsteps, or the wind? (Pause for a few seconds.)
